12/6/14 Daily Devotion

Malachi 2:9 “So I have caused you to be despised and humiliated before all the people, because you have not followed my ways but have shown partiality in matters of the law.”

Malachi states that God has caused His people to be despised and humiliated before others because of their unwillingness to live as they were called. Does God still do this today? Will God despise and/or humiliate us in front of others if we choose to walk another path? It depends on how you look at things. God will not openly humiliate us in front of others, but He will step aside and let us humiliate ourselves. He will not intervene as we walk astray and make wrong decisions. He might put someone in front of us in an attempt to get us on track, but He will not force us to change. So, in essence, God will allow us to walk into the results of our actions, causing us to be humiliated if necessary. The one thing that God will not do anymore is despise His people. There was a time in history where God reacted instantly to those who crossed Him improperly, without respect, or reverence, but not anymore. Because of the shed blood of Jesus, God allows us to walk the path of our choosing, knowing that one day we will have to give an answer for our decisions. So God will not despise us; He will let us live now and judge us later.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me understand that all my actions will come into Your judgment, and You will give me exactly what I deserve.
