12/30/14 Daily Devotion

Malachi 4:2 But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall.

The imagery of this verse is powerful. If we revere the name of God, His light will shine upon us with healing wings, and we will rejoice like calves being set free to roam out of their stalls. In other words, our joy of being set free from our sins is comparable to the joy calves experience as they are set free from confinement and allowed to roam. When we are caught in our sins, we live in a dark place. Even in the sunshine, sin keeps us mentally and sometimes physically in a dark place, but God gives us joyous freedom when He releases us from the constraints of our sins, when He forgives us and sends us forth. Picture those calves. Are you that happy to be set free of your sins? If the answer is yes, then live a life that reflects this truth.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help my life joyously express my gratitude for Your gracious forgiveness.
