1/10/15 Daily Devotion

Acts 1:10-11 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

They stood there in amazement. What they saw was something their eyes had never witnessed, something their eyes would never see again. Their hearts were filled with joy because Jesus had risen from the dead. Now He rose away from their presence. They stood there in awe of what had just happened, when two angels of God appeared and said that Jesus would return in the same manner. They never experienced His return. They waited. They lived for Him in anticipation of the day, but it never came. As Christians, we await the same day. We await the same moment when we see Jesus descend from the clouds to come and carry His church home. We might be blessed in seeing this event, and we might depart this life before it happens. Either way matters not, but what matters is our preparation for that day. We must be ready. Ready for His return. Ready for our departure. We must be ready, for it will happen in a moment’s notice.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me be ready to embrace the moment I will depart from this life and begin living in the eternal.
