1/14/15 Daily Devotion

Acts 1:18-19 (With the reward he got for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)

How could Judas betray Jesus? How could he spend three years of his life following Jesus and so callously hand Him over to be crucified? The answer is simple: for Judas, it was always about Judas. In the time he spent with Jesus, Judas never stopped trying find a way for it all to benefit himself. He never stopped thinking, “What’s in it for me?” Are we any different? Have we sincerely surrendered our lives to Jesus? Do we seek to follow His will at all times? How we see our relationship with God is important. He must be God, and we must always be the servants. He must be in charge, and we must always be willing to follow His guidance, His directives, His desires. Otherwise, we are no better than Judas.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me openly live for You, so much so that others see how committed I am to You and Your ways.
