1/24/15 Daily Devotion

Acts 2:13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”

Not everyone was amazed. Not everyone saw this as a miracle from God. Not everyone saw this as a phenomenal event. Some people ridiculed, others poked fun, and still others accused them of drunkenness. How could this happen in the middle of such a powerful event? How could they miss the point of what was happening? How could they turn themselves against those involved? Unfortunately, we are, at times, no different. When we don’t completely understand something or someone, we turn against it with unfounded reasoning, reasoning that is an attempt to make us feel better about the situation. We are uncomfortable, so we mock the situation or person that has put us in this position. We are confused, so we make accusations that help us come up with a conclusion that makes us happy. We also do this because we are afraid. We are afraid to change. We are afraid to have God move powerfully within our lives. We are afraid to give up complete control over to God. We must not be afraid. We must be trusting that God has a plan for our lives, certainly better than anything we could have come up with ourselves.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me trust in You and not find a way to rely on myself instead.
