1/27/15 Daily Devotion

Acts 2:15 These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning!

Here Peter begins his response by offering proof that they are not drunk. He is basically saying, “How can we be drunk? It’s only nine in the morning.” Quite often wine was drunk in the days of the Bible. It offered cures for ailments. It offered a beverage that was healthier than the impure water that was available. Most people drank wine, but there were few that would have been drunk at nine in the morning. This brings up the question, is the consumption of alcohol allowed in scripture? The answer is, yes. The only aspect of this act that is frowned upon is the over consumption that leads to drunkenness. When we get drunk, we lose control. We do not think properly. We do not react properly. We do not act properly. When we get drunk, we become different people and place ourselves in harm’s way.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me make sure I always have control of my life.
