1/7/15 Daily Devotion

Acts 1:4-5 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

How good are we at following orders? Sometimes we do well, but other times, when we do not see the need, we are not very diligent in our responsiveness. We have good intentions most of the time, but sometimes things happen, sometimes our thoughts on the orders get in the way. Before Jesus went to be at the right hand of God, He gave important orders to His disciples. Do not leave Jerusalem; wait for my Father’s gift. Well, when you say it’s a gift, that changes everything, right? In regards to the orders or directives of Jesus, it should not matter. When we are called to do something or refrain from something else, we should. We should be willing to follow the orders/directives of the Bible, directives given by God, directives solidified through Jesus. The question that comes forth is simple: how committed are we to being servants of God? If we are willing to serve, it will not be an issue.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me have a willing servant’s heart.
