2/5/15 Daily Devotion

Acts 2:45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.

This is amazing. They were so concerned with each other that they were willing to give that which was their own in order to stand in the gap for another, in order to be there for them when a need arose. Most churches, most Christians, are willing to go so far to help someone. Most churches, most Christians, are willing to do so much; but after that, there is a great amount of hesitation. Why do we hesitate? Our hesitation centers around trust. We trust those within our circle, those that we know very well, but we have a hard time trusting others. These people, those being described in here in Acts, did not know everything about each other. In fact, some of them had just met when the events of Pentecost had taken place. What they had together was a common, new found focus, a new purpose, that centered around Jesus. The reason why they were so quick to reach out in service is simple. They did so because they were helping their family, their brothers and sisters in Christ. Do our actions reflect the same attitude?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me understand what I can do to help those in need, especially my brothers and sisters in Christ.
