2/27/15 Daily Devotion

Acts 4:18-20 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to obey you rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

It would have been easier for Peter and John to discontinue speaking about Jesus. They knew that they were risking their lives. They knew that they were becoming the next targets of the religious leaders. They were witness to what had happened to Jesus, and they were ready to endure anything that was brought forth. Their words are very inspiring, “We cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” They stood up for Jesus when others were cowering away in fear. They took a stand because Jesus had done the same for all mankind. How often do we act in this manner? When the heat is on, when people are pushing against us, do we stand up for Jesus? As the world turns more and more away from Jesus, will we remain steadfast?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me stand firm upon my belief in You and my desire to follow Your ways, even when I am being criticized for for my choices.
