Daily Devotion 4/14/15

Acts 8:29-30 The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.

Philip, through the urging of the Spirit, acted upon the desires of God. While this might seem to be a common occurrence in scripture, consider for a moment the manner in which Philip followed the instructions of God. When Philip was prompted by the Spirit to go to and stay near the chariot, his reaction was to run. He didn’t casually walk; he ran. He ran because he believed the urging was real. He ran because he wanted to follow the will of God. He ran because he believed that God gave him an urgent task to fulfill. How often do we move to serve God with the same urgency? Do we really listen to the urging of the Spirit? God wants to utilize each of us to make a difference within this world, but He can’t if we are not willing to see the urgency behind following His guidance.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me understand the need to listen for and act upon Your urgings.
