Daily Devotion 4/17/15

Acts 8:36-38 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?” And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.

The eunuch grasped Philip’s words, and it immediately penetrated his heart. As they were traveling, they passed some water, and the eunuch wanted to give an immediate response to the gospel. He wanted to be baptized, just as God’s Word commands. Baptism is a controversial topic within the church today, but in reality there shouldn’t be any controversy. Jesus was baptized. Jesus received the Spirit of God as He came up out of the water immediately following His baptism. If we were to follow the example of one person in scripture, would it not be Jesus? When Jesus left this earth, the last command He gave was to go forth baptizing and teaching, baptizing and teaching. So why is there any question as to what we should immediately do after our hearts become filled with repentance?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me open my heart to the power of Your presence, help me to walk forward from the moment I receive You through baptism until the day I see You face to face.
