Daily Devotion 4/3/15

Acts 7:56-59 “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul. While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

Stephen’s message infuriated those within the range of his words. They covered their ears, like little children, trying to refrain from hearing anything more he had to share. In their anger, they grabbed Stephen, dragged him outside of the city, and began to stone him to death. Stephen was so filled with the Spirit of God that he was empowered to endure all that was set before his life, all that they thought they could bring into his life. How could Stephen hold firm in his faith at the point of his impending death? The answer might not be clear to some, but it has everything to do with his relationship with God. Stephen set for us an example to be followed. He demonstrates what the heart of a Christian should focus on, God. One hundred percent, it is God.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me become so focused on You that all other things move to the background.
