Daily Devotion 4/8/15

Acts 8:9-10 Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, “This man is the divine power known as the Great Power.”

Who likes a bragger? Do we really like to spend time with someone who points to their own presence before acknowledging, if at all, others? We tend to desire the company of those who lift us up, those who make us feel good about ourselves, those that have the power to make a difference within our lives, and there is generally nothing wrong with these actions. Simon was a bragger. He boasted about being someone great, someone special, but deep down inside something was missing, and that was Jesus. Do you spend a lot of time referring to yourself? Do you have a need to be the center of attention? Maybe that’s because you refuse to let Jesus become the center of your attention.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me place You at the center of my life. Help me refer to You more than I refer to myself.
