Review: Dinosaur Devotions

_225_350_Book.2667.cover

Dinosaur Devotions: 75 Dino Discoveries, Bible Truths, Fun Facts, And More, written by Michelle Medlock Adams, illustrated by Denise Turu, is a devotional that is designed enlarge the Biblical knowledge of its audience while enticing them with knowledge about dinosaurs.

The creative design of this devotional is certainly amazing. The utilization of the stories and/or the historical aspects of the dinosaurs along with the combination of scriptural references is both knowledgeable and intriguing.

The illustrations that are used to depict the dinosaurs are very vivd, colorful, and bring to life that which they were prepared to represent. Along with the illustrations, you will find information such as, height, length, weight, dietary needs ,and the family or category to which each dinosaur belongs.

Some people might wonder, as they glance at the cover, how a combination of scripture and dinosaurs could be utilized together in a children’s devotion. But as they turn the pages, they will see that it has been done and done rather well, making this a devotional that will engage the hearts and minds of all those blessed to hear or read it words. Thus this is a recommended purchase.

Review: Mark Of The Raven

Unknown

Mark Of The Raven: The Ravenwood Saga, written by Morgan L. Busse, published by Bethany House, is a book that follows the choices of Selene as she seeks to discover who she truly is within the world created throughout the book.

Being more of a realist, this isn’t usually the type of book that I would choose for myself, but I was pleasantly surprised as I turned the pages. To say the least, Selene was a very interesting character. The manner in which she approached her struggles and the growth that occurred from them were pulling at my heart strings.

While there were some portions of the content that seemed to carry over itself, there wasn’t so much that it caused you to consider putting the book down. One of the things, besides the presence and story of Selene, that really brings the story to life are the differing magical abilities that are possessed by those within the different houses and the struggles with their desire to keep their said abilities a secret.

Turning the pages if this publication has been an adventure for my mind, and I believe it will be for almost everyone who invests in its purchase, thus it is definitely a recommended purchase.

Comentary Review: Isaiah

fullsizeoutput_1

Everyday Bible Commentary: Isaiah, written by Alfred Martin, published by Moody Publishers, is a book that carries its readers through a study of the book of Isaiah.

This publication is part of a series of Bible study books entitled the Everyday Bible Commentary. It was originally published in 1956, but its content still has relevance in today’s struggling society.

Martin is certainly attached to his opinion on the book of Isaiah, as seen in the manner in which he utilizes to speak about those who hold to a differing opinion on such ideologies as the time period in which the book was written and his belief that all the prophecies have or will eventually take place.

This commentary carries its reader through a general synopsis of Isaiah, through his commissions, his teachings about the coming Messiah, God’s comfort, and the burdens that were going to be placed on the nation Israel.

Instead of being a complete, comprehensive commentary, this book carries its readers through highlights in the book of Isaiah, focusing on very select portions of the text. So if you are looking for an in-depth commentary, this might not be the book you would purchase. But if you are seeking an in-depth theological study of specific ideologies found in Isaiah, then you have found your resource.

Book Review: Shelter Of The Most High

Unknown-1

Shelter of the Most High, written by Connilyn Cossette, published by Bethany House, is the second book in the Cities of Refuge series. It follows A Light on the Hill.  The series is based on the passage in Joshua 20:1-6, in which God commands Joshua to create cities of refuge for those who unintentionally kill someone.

Sofea and her cousin Prezi are diving when their entire island village is killed. When they surface, they are captured and taken across the sea to an unknown land, Canaan. When they are found and taken to Darek’s home in Kedesh, a city of refuge, she is stunned with the kindness she finds there. Eitan has lived there for eleven years, having been adopted by Darek and Moriyah after accidentally poisoning two men when he was a child. Eitan is immediately attracted to Sofea but does not want to expose her to danger from his past. When Eitan’s enemy Raviv captures the girls, a plot to kill both Eitan and the high priest of Israel is set in motion. Sofea and Eitan must rely on God to save their loved ones.

The characters were well developed, which causes the reader to be drawn into the plot very quickly making this  a wonderful book and a recommended purchase.

Bible Review: NKJV Acient-Modern Bible

_225_350_Book.2657.cover

NKJV Ancient-Modern Bible: One Faith, Handed Down, For All The Saints; published by Thomas Nelson, is a Bible designed to bring together the knowledge of the past, present and utilize it to transform the future of those blessed to turn its pages.

Utilizing the wisdom from such scholars as: Eugene Peterson, Johannesburg Brenz, Bruce Waltke, James Bryan Smith, Victorian Strigel, Warren Wiersbe, Charles Spurgeon, John Calvin, John Wesley, C. S. Lewis, and so many others, this Bible has the potential to change the way its readers look at and absorb the knowledge of scripture and how it effects their relationship with Christ.

Turning the pages of this Bible, you will find new book introductions, biographies of notable church leaders, full color maps, and beautiful depictions of art that have crossed the span of time and history, lists of church creeds, and special scripture lists for various seasons.

In my personal journey through through this Bible, I find only two deficits at this point. While this Bible features the Thomas Nelson NKJV Comfort Print typeface, it is brought forth a little minute for the average reader, and the words of Christ are not presented in red.

All in all, this Bible has the potential to be a powerful asset towards the growth of.  those who possess it within their lives, thus it is a recommended purchase.
