2/7/14 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 2:19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with Gods people and members of Gods household,

God wants everyone to turn their lives over to Him. He wants them to come to understand that living for Him brings about a better life, a life filled with more happiness, a life filled with a real purpose. Along with becoming Christians, God wants everyone to become part of a body of believers, thus enhancing their relationship with Him and becoming more effective within their lives. Our presence within a church, as part of a body of Christ, cannot be understated. God does not want us to walk through life alone. He does not want us to walk through turmoil alone. He does not want us to travel through the circumstances of life, whether good or bad, without the support of a church. Being part of a church, becoming a member of God’s household, is an essential part of our lives as Christians, an essential part of our witness.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me find a church home that can use me to spread Your gospel, one that will guide me into a deeper relationship with You.

2/4/14 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast.

Serving within the church will not save us from eternal punishment in Hell. Serving within the church will not bring to us the forgiveness of our sins. Serving within the church is a byproduct of our salvation. That means that we serve because we are saved, we serve because of our salvation. When we come to understand the need for forgiveness and salvation, we seek Christ and baptism. Following this, we should come to understand the importance of our service. For as we serve within the church, we open up avenues where others can walk into salvation, where others can find forgiveness. If we have been truly changed, we will be willing servants.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me become a willing servant of the church. Help me become a willing servant of You.

2/1/14 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 5:25-27 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

As Christians, we are called to set the example for those within our families. As Christians, we are called to show them Christ through our lives, through our actions, and through our words. We are called to love them enough to show them that following God is the most important decision of their lives. We are to love them enough to tell them when they have walked the wrong direction. We have to love them enough to correct them when they have done wrong. We have to love them enough to show them what Christ did for them on the cross of Calvary. How much do you love your family members?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me set an example of faith that can be followed by my family and friends. Help me show them who You are within my life.

10/17/13 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 4:2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

When we consider ourselves better than others, we lose our Godly focus. When we lose our Godly focus, the impression of God within our lives becomes tainted. When the impression of God within our lives becomes tainted, our witness becomes a detriment to the expansion of God’s kingdom and the salvation of mankind. God has called us to express humility through our lives, for this is only way we can present to this world an untainted impression of a Christian. The problem: humility does not come easy. All that we have to do to make it a staple within our lives, however, will be worth it in the end.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, show me all the ways I must change to become more like You.

7/3/13 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— [9] not by works, so that no one can boast.

Serving God should be a natural result of our salvation, but it must be understood that our service will not bring us salvation. Many people want to believe that we can earn forgiveness and/or salvation through our actions, but this erroneous. We are saved through our faith, not our actions. We are saved because of God’s grace, not our efforts. We are saved because of the actions of Jesus on the cross of Calvary, not our personal actions. Our faith in God carries us into our salvation, and our actions should be the normal result of our faith/salvation. So the question that remains after all this is simply stated: Are you serving God because He first served you, or are you serving God because you are hoping for special consideration from Him?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me see that my service to You should come as a direct result of what You have done for me.

5/11/13 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 4:2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

How we are called to present ourselves within this world usually gets lost within our translation of life. We have heard the sermons, received the messages, read the scriptures, and heard the lessons, and they all make perfect Biblical sense. But then we enter into the picture. Even though we agree with the mandates of the Bible, we hold them accountable to our translation of life. We hold them captive to our ideas and desires, and, if needed, we change them to fit into our translation of life. This action makes us prideful, and yet we do it anyway. Humility is a trait that has become rare within today’s society, but it is a trait that all Christians should be expressing through their lives. To adjust the Word of God to suit our plans, to alter its meaning to fit into our little corner of life, is prideful. For as we do this, we are claiming to have greater understanding than God. Let us live not as a prideful people, but a people who are humbly seeking to please God.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me see where pride is prevalent within me, and show me how it can be removed.

4/6/13 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 4:26 “In your anger do not sin” : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,

When anger is allowed to take up residence within our lives, it begins to gain control of our essence. When anger festers, our hearts slowly begin to harden, thus making a resolution come at a longer span of time. Anger is an emotion that we cannot afford to allow to grow. For if we do, nothing good will result. As Christians, we must try to release our anger in a timely manner. We must try to seek a quick resolution to the situation, so our anger and/or frustration does not build into rage. Once we hit the phase of rage, it will be almost impossible to return to a proper, Godly, Christian attitude without the possibility of causing permanent friction to exist.

Prayer Starter:

Lord, help me to resolve any issues of anger quickly and appropriately, so You may be glorified by my actions.

3/25/13 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 3:11-12 according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. [12] In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.

Our purpose in life is only accomplished through Christ. After this statement is declared, there will be disagreement, but this comes only as the content of the subject is perceived. Most will say that they have set forth goals that have led them to or will lead them to accomplishing their purpose in life. What needs to be understood is that their purpose is exactly that, their purpose. When a Christian is focused on what God wants for their lives, their purpose changes into the purpose that God has for their lives, thus their purpose in life is only accomplished through Christ. The Bible does not say we can’t have goals in life. The Word does not declare that we cannot have any dreams. But as we are living for God, we will seek to walk within the purpose He has for our lives. Do your dreams line up with God’s will for your life? Do you seek to daily live out God’s purpose?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, show me what You have ordained as my purpose upon this earth, and help me to accomplish this according to Your timeline.

7/14/12 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 4:17-19 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. [18] They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. [19] Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more.

Christians are called to reflect the presence of God within their lives. They are called to remove themselves from the world while still living within it. They are called to stand out as they stand up against those who oppose the Word of God. They are called to no longer live as a people who are lost within their sins, but as a people that are saved and sanctified by the blood of Jesus. The time has come for all who call upon the name of Jesus to do so in such a way that the world hears their voice. Will you be the one the world hears?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, give me the strength to walk proudly declaring Your presence within my life.

7/12/12 Daily Devotion

Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Our mouths speak from the depths of our hearts. Many people believe that they have to speak inappropriately to gain someone’s attention. They feel that a minor infraction from the mouth is allowable, as long as it accomplishes that which they deem as important. The issue arrises when we do not realize that these words have moved from the occasional getting someone’s attention into the normalcy of our everyday lives. How do we know what’s inappropriate and what’s not? Here is a simple test: Would you be willing to say it to Jesus?

Prayer Starter:

Lord, cleanse my mouth that it may glorify You.
